Actor Suniel Shetty has confirmed that her daughter actor Athiya Shetty tied the knot with her long-time boyfriend, cricketer KL Rahul, in an intimate ceremony on Monday. In the evening, Suniel and his son, Ahan Shetty, left the wedding venue to distribute candy to the media stationed outside the venue.
Suniel also said he is now “officially a father-in-law.” Speaking to the media, he described the wedding as: “Very nice, small, very close family event.” “Bohot acha raha aur abhi phere bhi ho gaye hain. Abhi shaadi official ho chuki hain toh official father-in-law bhi ban chukka hoon (Marriage was very good, pheras are now done, so the wedding is officially done and I am officially a father-in-law). The wedding took place at Suniel’s farm in Khandala.
Meanwhile, guests were photographed arriving at the wedding venue in cars. Celebrities such as Diana Penty, Krishna Shroff and Anshula Kapoor, among others, were seen in all-white outfits. Videos and photos are doing the rounds on the internet, as shared by paparazzi accounts.
An insider previously told Hindustan Times: “It is an extremely close family affair. Only friends and relatives will be part of the wedding. It’s very likely that you won’t see many people from the industry.” The couple has also implemented a no-phone policy for their guests due to their privacy.
Athiya and KL Rahul had been dating for a few years until they went public. Although they never spoke about each other publicly, the two continued to post hints on social media. They finally made it Insta official with a birthday message. It was followed by a red carpet appearance where they made their relationship public during the screening of her brother Ahaan Shetty’s debut film, Tadap. Rahul and Athiya were also joined by Athiya’s parents – Suniel Shetty and Mana Shetty, who share a close relationship with Rahul, at the red carpet event.
Athiya and KL Rahul are likely to appear in public anytime soon, as husband and wife. Earlier, Suniel recently spoke to the paparazzi about the same and assured the media that the bride and groom will pose for photos after the ceremony. A day before the wedding, he had said, “Main kal leke aata hoon bachhon ko. Aapne jo pyaar dikhaya uske liye bohot bohot thank you (I will bring the children tomorrow, thank you for showing so much love).”
Athiya, Suniel’s daughter, made her acting debut in 2015 with the romantic action film Hero. She was last seen in Motichoor Chaknachoor (2019).
