Raju died due to a heart attack in September 2022, more than 40 days after being hospitalized. He has been on life support since he was admitted to the All Indian Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) on 10 August 2022. He was cremated in the presence of family and close friends.

In an interview with Times of India, Antara said, “I would like to thank our Prime Minister, Narendra Modi ji. He was in touch with my mother immediately since my father collapsed and kept in touch till the last day. So many things became easier for us. .. Arvind Kejriwal wrote us a letter. Laloo Prasad Yadav is a big fan of my father. And I must tell you that there is one man who inquired every day about my father’s health when he was in hospital. And that is “Amitabh Bachchan. That’s a great thing. My father idolized him and he became what he was because of Mr. Bachchan. This gave us all great strength.”

She also said, “Kapil Sharma paid tribute to my father in his show and I am very grateful to him for that. Johnny Lever called four times a day and he prayed a lot for my father. TVF’s Shreyansh Pandey and Arunabh Kumar held a screening of my father’s last recording of TVF. Ironically, he talked about life and death in it. It was a very emotional moment. There were other names from the industry and the list is too long.”
