Every year January 26 is celebrated as Republic Day in India. In the year 2022, so this year the country celebrates its 74th Republic Day. In the year 1947, the country gained independence from the British Raj, but it did not have its own constitution. India received its constitution on January 26, 1950. On this day, the Indian constitution came into force and India became a sovereign state, which was declared a republic. Dr. BR Ambedkar chaired the Drafting Committee of the Constitution. Republic was proclaimed, so this day is celebrated as Republic Day.

Republic Day is celebrated with great pomp all over the country. The main attraction of the Republic Day celebrations is the parade which starts at Rajpath, Delhi and ends at India Gate. The Indian Constitution came into force on January 26, 1950. The Constituent Assembly, which aimed to draft the Constitution of India, held its first session on December 9, 1946. The last assembly ended on November 26, 1949, and the Constitution was adopted a year later.

Republic Day symbolizes the spirit of independent India. On this day in 1950, the Indian National Congress proclaimed Poorna Swaraj, a declaration of India’s independence from colonial rule.
