Recently the CM had said “Who is Shahrukh Khan? I don’t know anything about him or his movie Pathaan”. He was responding to reporters’ questions about the violent protest by activists who staged a demonstration last week in front of a theater in Narengi, where the actor’s film Pathaan is being screened.

As quoted by the ANI news agency, the Assam CM said on Monday, “I know movie stars of my time. I didn’t know Shah Rukh. He sent a message and introduced himself, ‘I am Shah Rukh Khan. I want to talk to you ‘. I didn’t have time then. So later at 2 o’clock we talked and I told him that there will be no disturbance in Assam (concerning movie Pathaan).”

The Assam CM had said that Shah Rukh spoke to him by phone early Sunday and expressed concern over a protest against Pathaan in Guwahati. He had assured the actor that his government will inquire about the demonstration against the film and ensure that “such undesirable incidents will not occur again”. “Bollywood actor Shri @iamsrk called me and we spoke today at 2 am. He expressed concern about an incident in Guwahati during the screening of his film. I assured him that it is the duty of the state to maintain public order. We will inquire and make sure such untoward incidents do not occur,” CM Sarma said on Twitter.

Pathaan faced backlash from a few groups for featuring Deepika Padukone in a saffron colored bikini in the song Besharam Rang. Part of the public has demanded a ban on the film and also held protests across the country.

Pathaan, directed by Siddharth Anand, will be released on January 25. The film is part of Aditya Chopra’s ambitious espionage universe. Besides Shah Rukh, Deepika Padukone, John Abraham, Dimple Kapadia and Ashutosh Rana also star in the film. It is set to release in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.
