Oscars 2023: RRR Makes History, Wins Best Song Nomination. View the full list of names | Hollywood
SS Rajamouli’s pre-independence fictional epic made history at the 95th Academy Awards. The Telugu blockbuster received a nomination in the Best Song category. The nominees were announced Tuesday by Allison Williams and Riz Ahmed of Beverly Hills, California.
All That Breathes was also nominated for Best Documentary.
Daniel Scheinert and Daniel Kwan’s “Everything Everywhere All at Once” scooped 11 top nominations on Tuesday, including nominations for Michelle Yeoh and comeback kid Ke Huy Quan.
Previously, RRR won the Best Song Award for his track Naatu Naatu and the Best Foreign Language Film in the 28th edition of the Critics Choice Awards. For that, RRR made India proud on the world stage when it won the Golden Globe for the Best Original Score Naatu Naatu.
A pre-independence fictional story, RRR follows two real-life Indian revolutionaries – Alluri Sitarama Raju (Ram Charan) and Komaram Bheem (Jr NTR) – in the 1920s. The film also featured Alia Bhatt and Ajay Devgn in special performances. At the Golden Globes, RRR was also nominated in the Best Foreign Language Film category, but lost to Argentina’s historical drama Argentina, 1985.
All That Breathes previously won the World Cinema Grand Jury Prize: Documentary at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, a film gala that promotes independent cinema and filmmakers, and earned the Golden Eye award for best documentary at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival.
