Prior to its release, Pathaan was involved in controversy because of the song Besharam Rang as many including politicians criticized the song for ‘hurting religious feelings’. PTI has now reported that Hindu Jagran Manch activists protested at Sapna-Sangeeta cinema hall in Indore with saffron flags when the film was released on Wednesday. According to eyewitnesses, some protesters reportedly entered the theater building and asked the audience to leave, citing the screening of the film.

Meanwhile, Bajrang Dal activists also protested the screening of Pathaan at the city’s Kastur cinema hall. They reportedly chanted slogans against Shah Rukh Khan. Soon after, police were deployed to both theaters.

PTI quoted Assistant Commissioner of Police Dishesh Agrawal as saying, “Activists from Hindu Jagran Manch and Bajrang Dal have protested against Pathaan film. Therefore, some of the morning shows were cancelled.” When asked about further shows from Pathaan, he added that an appropriate decision will be made taking into account the public order situation.

Earlier, many people raised questions about Besharam Rang in which Shah Rukh and Deepika are in love in Spain. In the song, Deepika’s outfits including her saffron swimsuit were criticized by a section of people. Later, the film was approved by The Central Board of Film Certification with several cuts. Directed by Siddharth Anand, the film also features John Abraham.

Recently, Prime Minister Narendra Modi warned BJP party workers against unnecessary comments on irrelevant issues such as films at the party’s recent meeting. He didn’t mention a movie in particular.
