The pre-bookings for Shah Rukh Khan–Deepika PadukonePathaan’s new film was set to premiere on January 20, Friday, but they opened a day earlier and the film has already sold more than one lakh tickets in major cinema chains. According to trade experts, Pathaan is ready for an opening collection of €35-40 crore when it comes out on January 25. It’s probably gross too €150-200 crore in India during the first weekend and €300 crore worldwide. (Also Read: John Abraham says ‘entire nation’ has missed Pathaan co-star Shah Rukh Khan)
Trade analyst Atul Mohan has reported that a total of 90,000 tickets were sold on the first day of pre-booking. He added that PVR has sold 35,000 tickets, INOX 30,000 and Cinepolis 25,000 until 9pm on Thursday 19 January. it peaks the day before its release. We can safely say that the shows are good. In most buildings such as Cinepolis, PVR and INOX etc, four of the five screens are given to Pathaan.” According to reports, the film has sold tickets worth €15 crore.
Directed by Siddharth Anand, plays Pathaan John Abraham alongside Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone in the lead roles.
Film exhibitor Akshaye Rathi believes Pathan will probably score somewhere in between €150 crore on €200 crore during the first weekend. The fact that the film gets a five-day weekend will only contribute to better numbers. “Booking in advance was meant to open on January 20, but with expectations it opened on Thursday and the premium formats like IMAX opened a day earlier. We hope that the film will open with good numbers.”
Speaking about his projection for the Pathaan opening collections, Akshaye added: “Purely by the trajectory of traction the film has received, and the fact that it will be a weekday (on the day of Pathaan release), it could are €35 crore or even more. The trends are quite encouraging everywhere (both city 1 and city 2). This is also a five day weekend, we can see everything in between €150 crore on €Weekend collection of 200 crore.
Producer and film analyst Girish Johar said: “Box office is very dynamic and pre-booking figures for day one and the first half of day two – all languages and all formats – are very good. It’s unlike how movies scored last year, it’s really heartwarming. The film has already crossed 2.5 lakh ticket sales. I see the film making somewhere in between €37- €40 crore on the first day. If everything is on schedule and the film is what the audience expects, Pathaan can be bold €300 crore worldwide by the end of the first weekend. In India you can €175- €200 crores.”
Part of the credit for the collection’s huge sums also goes to the fact that ticket prices have also been increased for Pathaan. However, a great traction appeal can be attributed to the fact that Shah Rukh Khan returns to the screen after a five-year hiatus from film. His last film, Anand L Rai’s Zero came out in 2018. With actors like Dimple Kapadia and Ashutosh Rana marching alongside the star, Pathaan has all the star value to draw the audience.
