Hours after the Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, made his “I am looking at the stars of my time” remark while speaking about Shah Rukh Khan, fans reminded him on Monday that the actor is “four years older” than him. Talking about his conversation with the actor, the Assam CM said that he had received a text message from the actor on Saturday saying, ‘I am Shah Rukh Khan. I want to talk with you’. Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Sunday that Shah Rukh called him late at night expressing concern over reports of protests from an outfit in Guwahati against the release of his film. He said he had assured Shah Rukh that the state government will maintain law and order.
Now fans of Shah Rukh are reminding the Assam CM that the actor is older than him. Someone wrote on Twitter: “I know movie stars from my time? Brother, you are 4 years younger than Shah Rukh Khan.” “This guy is about 4 years younger than SRK and he talks about ‘movie stars of my time’,” one tweet read.
“Baazigar was a super hit during our college days #CottonCollege. Was one of the blockbuster releases of the era where we were all in our fiery youth in our college days @himantabiswa sir,” said one Twitter user. “At the moment, Hemanta is 53 and Shahrukh is 57….. Can Hemanta ji clarify who the stars are in his time???” one person asked.
On Friday, the Assam CM had said that he does not know Shah Rukh Khan nor is he aware of the Pathaan film. The Assam CM made it clear on Monday that he still doesn’t know much about Shah Rukh and barely watches movies.
“I’ve seen movies by Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra and Jeetendra…I still don’t know much about Shah Rukh Khan. Since 2001 I haven’t seen more than six to seven movies. wanted to talk to me. After I cleared that, a message was sent to him (Shah Rukh) at 2 AM on Sunday saying I was available for a call. He then called me and said his film would be coming soon would appear and that he I hoped there would be no problem. I asked him the name of his film and he said Pathaan. I said to him ‘koi disturb nahi hoga’ (there will be no disturbances),” he said, quoted by news agency PTI.
When asked about his ‘Who is Shah Rukh Khan’ remark, the chief minister said, “Why should I know him? I really didn’t know he was such a great man…I don’t watch many movies. I know of older actors. The attraction to stars varies from generation to generation.”
Pathaan, directed by Siddharth Anand, will hit theaters on January 25. The film stars Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, John Abraham, Dimple Kapadia and Ashutosh Rana.
