“His personality, like his height and physique, matches that of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. He is also a fantastic artist. We didn’t do a look test, I was sure he is the one who can play Sambhaji,” Utekar told PTI. “He will train for four months in sword fighting, horse riding and some other things. And once we’re satisfied, we’ll start shooting,” he said.
The cinematographer director said he was eager to discover the story of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj on the big screen. “We have seen many films about Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, but no one knows how great a warrior Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj was, or his contribution to the Maratha Empire and to Maharashtra,” Utekar added.
The director said the film is in the pre-production phase and shooting will begin in August-September. The untitled film is supported by Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films, with whom Utekar has collaborated in the past on two successful films: Luka Chuppi and Mimi. Utekar revealed that his romantic comedy starring Kaushal and Sara Ali Khan is currently in post-production. “The film is ready, it will hit theaters in April,” he said.
